Ms. Sara Helmy Abdelaziz

Sara Abdelaziz is a first-year master’s student in Nuclear Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, with a background in nuclear engineering. Her interests include nuclear safety, neutronics, AI applications, and nuclear safeguards. She is passionate about innovation and sustainable energy solutions.

Ms. Aya Al-Bahili
Head of Alternative Technologies Department Iraqi National Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Authority | Iraq
Aya Al-Bahili is the Head of the Alternative Technologies Department at the Iraqi Nuclear Radiological Chemical and Biological Regulatory Commission (INRC), where she has worked since 2019. She holds a BSc in Communication Engineering from Almansour University College, Iraq, and an MSc in the same field from the American University for Sciences and Technology, Lebanon, Aya’s work focuses on managing the transition of radiological source practices to alternative techniques, overseeing the CAS monitoring center for six Gamma knife hospitals in Iraq, and tracking global nuclear accidents through the IAEA.
Her responsibilities also include managing mobile radiological survey data, which involves collecting, analyzing, and visualizing data from devices like the GR460 and MDS, creating natural radiological maps, and locating lost radioactive sources. She has participated in numerous international training programs and workshops related to radiological response, emergency preparedness, and the safe handling of radioactive materials, including courses with the US Department of Energy (DoE) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Ms. Al-Bahili has also contributed to projects such as the dismantling of the IRT-5000 Iraqi research reactor.

Dr. Nisreen AL-HMOUD
Royal Scientific Society (RSS) Director of Biosafety & Bio-Security Centre at Royal Scientific Society (RSS) | Jordan
Dr Nisreen AL-Hmoud has directed the Biosafety and Bio-Security Centre at the RSS since 2015. As a dedicated scientist, she is driven by a passion for research that serves the public good and contributes to the preservation of human health and biodiversity. Dr Nisreen has a particular interest in fostering effective and sustainable scientific international cooperation. Over the past decade, she has devoted her research efforts to enhancing scientific capacity in the fields of water and food safety and security. She also evaluates environmental risks, collaborating with scientists, government agencies, local communities, and NGOs in Jordan and the MENA region. Besides that, she is actively contributing to Bio-risk Management capacity building programs nationally and regionally. Dr Nisreen is a frequent participant at international biosafety/biosecurity meetings and has attended international governmental meetings at the BTWC and the UNSCR 1540 Committee.

Ms. Maram Al-Jarrah
Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) Nuclear Engineer | Jordan
Maram is a nuclear engineer and currently works in the Transport and Radioactive Waste Management Directorate at the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC), Jordan. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering from Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), where she graduated with honors and ranked first in her class. Her professional experience includes her role as a Nuclear Engineer at JAEC, where she focuses on building a new strategy for education and training, coordinating postgraduate courses in radiation protection and safety of radiation sources, and contributing to the directorate’s operations.
She has also worked as a staff scientist at the Royal Scientific Society, promoting scientific and technical collaboration in the CBRN field. During her time there, she has worked on the Global Cesium Security Initiative (GCSI) in Jordan, where she was involved in general management and oversight, as well as site assessments for security systems. Additionally, she contributed to the reactivation of the Radiation Monitoring Cross Calibration (RMCC) project in Jordan. She has also worked as a teaching assistant at JUST, where she taught nuclear engineering courses. Additionally, she completed the International Safeguards Traineeship Program at the IAEA, gaining extensive training and experience at IAEA Headquarters in Vienna and other institutions. Her earlier roles include research assistant at JUST, conducting research on composite materials for gamma shielding.

Ms. Amatulaleem Alshrii
Radiological Inspector National Atomic Energy Commission | Yemen
Amatulaleem Alshrii is a physicist with specialization in in material science and radiation protection. She holds both a B.Sc. and master’s degree in physics from the University of Sana’a, Yemen, where her research focused on the effect of nickel nanoparticles on the microstructure and mechanical strength of lightweight aluminum alloys. She has recently completed the Postgraduate Education Course in Radiation Protection and Safety of Radioactive Sources (PGEC-18) at the Malaysian Nuclear Agency and training programs with the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) in Vienna.
Since 2019, she has been working as a Physicist and Radiological Inspector at the National Atomic Energy Commission of Yemen. Her role involves conducting safety inspections, ensuring regulatory compliance, performing radiation monitoring, and training colleagues on radiation protection practices. Additionally, she is conducting research on assessing the lead equivalent thickness of building materials using gamma rays, which contributes to enhancing radiation safety measures.

Prof. Amira Zaouak Ammar
Assistant Professor/Researcher National Center for Nuclear Sciences and Technology | Tunisia
Prof. Amira Zaouak is a senior researcher at Tunisia’s National Center for Nuclear Science and Technology. She is widely recognized for applying nuclear science to promote environmental sustainability, with a strong focus on clean energy, radioactive waste management, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions through radiation technology. Her innovative research addresses critical global challenges such as climate change and pollution, offering practical and scalable solutions for a sustainable future. She also serves as the coordinator of several research projects with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and is a member of the AFRA High-Level Steering Committee on Human Resource Development and Nuclear Knowledge Management. As the president of Women in Nuclear Tunisia, Prof. Zaouak has played a key role in advancing women’s participation in nuclear science, building international partnerships, promoting gender equality, and enhancing the global impact of nuclear technologies. She is also an active member of Women and Science, where she continues to inspire, mentor, and empower the next generation of women in STEM, strengthening their role in shaping a more sustainable and inclusive future.

Dr. Naser Burahmah
Assistant Professor Kuwait University | Kuwait
Dr. Naser Burahmah is an Assistant Professor of Physics at Kuwait University and a nuclear engineer specializing in radiation science, nuclear security, and nuclear detection technologies. He holds a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he also earned the Nuclear Security Science and Analysis Certificate with a focus on threat detection, safeguards, and nonproliferation.
Dr. Burahmah previously worked with the Target Design, Analysis, and Qualification group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), contributing to advanced projects in radiation transport modeling, space-radiation environments, and medical isotope production. His expertise spans PHITS and MCNP simulations, radiation detection systems, nuclear forensics, and the application of nuclear science to CBRN preparedness and response.

Dr. Lamiaa El Fiala
Professor of Public Health and Preventive Medicine Princess Nora Bint Abdul Rahman University (PNU) Physics Department, Faculty of Sciences
Dr. Lamiaa El Fiala is a Professor of Public Health and Preventive Medicine and has two decades of experience. She specializes in the interdisciplinary domain of nuclear materials and radiological source security. Her work focuses on education, research, and capacity building to robustly link public health outcomes with stringent nuclear safety and security standards.
Drawing on an M.Sc. in Education (Maastricht/SCU), she led and contributed to significant training initiatives, collaborating extensively with international bodies like IAEA-INSEN, as well as institutions such as King’s College London and Purdue University.

Prof. Akila Frahi-Amroun
Professor in Nuclear Physics University of Sciences and Technology Houari Boumediene of Algiers (USTHB) | Algeria
Dr Akila Frahi-Amroun is currently Professor of Nuclear Physics at the University of Sciences and Technology Houari Boumediene of Algiers (USTHB). She is the previous Dean of the Faculty of Physics of USTHB. Prof Akila Frahi-Amroun received her BS in Nuclear Physics at the USTHB, her MS and his PhD in Nuclear Physics from the University of Bordeaux I (France). Her PhD thesis was on High Energy Physics at the Linear Accelerator of Saclay (Paris, France).
Dr Frahi-Amroun was involved in the implementation of the first Medical Physics Programme in Algeria at USTHB. She served as Director of this programme and was involved in lecturing and supervising several MS and PhD theses. She was a Member of the Steering Committee of the National Cancer Plan 2015-2019. Dr Frahi-Amroun also participated in the setting of a Master’s programme in Nuclear Security at USTHB in 2012 and is involved in teaching several topics as well as supervising master’s theses. Dr Frahi-Amroun served as Chair International Nuclear Security Education Network (INSEN) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). She joined the network in 2013 as a point of contact for her university, and since then she has been an active member, being engaged in the leadership of INSEN by serving as Vice Chair and then Chair of its Working Group I ‘Developing Educational Material’ from 2016 to 2018 and subsequently as Vice Chair and Chair of INSEN from 2019 to 2021.
Dr Frahi-Amroun was involved in nuclear security education activities at the international level, delivering lectures as an IAEA expert in Regional Schools in Africa and Asia, on various nuclear security topics. She was also invited by the IAEA as a consultant in nuclear security education. Additionally, Dr Frahi-Amroun is an Editorial Board Member and reviewer for the International Journal for Nuclear Security. More recently, Dr Frahi-Amroun joined the Arab Women Network in CBRN Security.

Ms. Lujain Khalaileh

Lujain Khalaileh is a Nuclear Engineer at the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission, specializing in stakeholder engagement and public communication. She develops outreach strategies and delivers presentations on peaceful applications of nuclear energy. She holds a BSc degree in Nuclear Engineering from Jordan University of Science and Technology and a MSc degree in Nuclear Engineering from Moscow Engineering Physics Institute, with expertise in reactor physics and nuclear security.

Dr. Lobna Ben Khelifa
Assistant Professor of Data Science and AI Applied Science University in Amman | Jordan
Dr. Lobna Ben Khelifa is a PhD-qualified expert in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), with international experience across academia, industry, and policy advisory in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. She has led projects in smart systems, secure IoT, and trustworthy AI. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Data Science and AI at Applied Science University in Amman, Jordan, and as a consultant on AI strategy, security, and emerging technologies.
Her work focuses on bridging research and practice, with an emphasis on data security; trustworthy and generative AI; ethics, regulation, and responsible innovation; security-driven AI and IoT systems; and the governance of emerging technologies.

Ms. Reem Khrais
Research Engineer Emirates Nuclear Technology Center, Khalifa University | United Arab Emirates
Reem Khrais is a nuclear engineer with a master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering and Thermal Physics from the National Research Nuclear University in Moscow. She previously worked with the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission on uranium mining, radioactive waste management, and nuclear education program development. She is currently a Research Engineer at the Emirates Nuclear Technology Center, Khalifa University, and a certified Nuclear Security Professional by the World Institute for Nuclear Security.

Prof. Saheir Saad Korraa
Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority/WiN Africa Professor of Radiation Molecular Biology/President | Egypt
Saheir Korraa is the Professor of Radiation Molecular Biology at the National Center for Radiation Research and Technology, Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority. She completed her Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1977 and did her MSc and Ph.D. in Environmental Medical Sciences from the Institute of Environmental Sciences and Research, Ain Shams University. She has made significant contributions to the field of molecular biology and nuclear energy, including her academic appointments for teaching Molecular Biology at Ain Shams University (2000–2004) and the National Institute of Laser Enhanced Sciences at Cairo University (1996–2003), where she also established Molecular Biology laboratories. She has served as Principal Investigator for two IAEA projects and has supervised over 85 postgraduate theses (M.Sc., M.D., and Ph.D.).
Beyond academia, she has been an Expert Scientific Advisor to the African Institute for Biomedical Science and Technology (2002–2008) and served as a Member of The National Specialized Committee for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (1999–2015). Currently, she serves as the Treasurer of the Pan African Environmental Mutagen Society and Secretary General of the Egyptian Environmental Mutagen Society, alongside founding and presiding over Women in Nuclear (WiN) Egypt, and serving as President of both the WiN Africa regional Chapter and the African Association for Women in Nuclear Energy.

Ms. Fadia Mothafar
Head of the Biosecurity and Biosafety Division Nonproliferation Directorate of the National Authority for Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Authority | Iraq
Fadia Maki is Head of the Biosecurity and Biosafety Division at the Nonproliferation Directorate of the National Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Authority, with over 15 years of experience in nonproliferation and arms control. Currently based in Iraq, she specializes in Biorisk management, inspecting and monitoring of bio-related activities, and follow-up and implementation of Iraq’s obligations towards the Biological Weapons Convention, having worked with BTRP to develop and rehabilitate national Bio-Medical laboratories and raise their level in terms of biosafety and biosecurity. She works with the National Security Advisory as a biological expert on their projects focused on legislation and policies to develop CBRN teams’ readiness in Iraq. Fadia holds an MSc in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology from the University of Baghdad and is passionate about contributing to advancing and innovating science and technology for peaceful use and promoting a culture of responsibility and ethics in the field. she is currently working on drafting the first biosecurity policy in Iraq and writing and editing an introductory booklet on CBRN terms and CBRN teams in Iraq.

Ms. Hadeel Qurashi
Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) Director of Nuclear Security & Safeguards Department, Nuclear Security and Safeguards Directorate | Jordan
Mrs. Qurashi is a nuclear security professional who currently works at the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) as the Director of Nuclear Security and Safeguards. She holds a BSc in Nuclear Engineering from the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST).
Throughout her career, she has been working on enhancing nuclear and radiological security at both the organizational and national levels. She serves as a point of contact for Jordan with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of the Integrated Nuclear Security Sustainability Plan (INSSP) and Nuclear Security Support Centers (NSSCs). She is also a member of several key national committees in nuclear security.
Her expertise relates mainly to nuclear and radiological security, the global non-proliferation architecture, and international instruments governing nuclear security and non-proliferation. In addition to Arabic, Mrs. Qurashi speaks English and French.
