The Rise of AI in the Age of Emerging and Disruptive Technologies

A timely and important webinar was organized by the Arab Women Network in CBRN Security in May 2025, on the rise of AI in the age of emerging and disruptive technologies.

With diverse speakers and expertise, the webinar discussed about how AI can be used for safety and security in the CBRN field.

The first speaker Dr. Lobna Ben Khalifa talked about using AI in nuclear security. She discussed five levels of using AI in nuclear security that included assistive levels, which requires human support and actions and autonomous levels, in which AI will be taking the decisions. She mentioned the current regulations, which is impacting the use of AI. She emphasized that the main concern of nuclear regulators is that AI system does not offer 100% accuracy and therefore cannot be trusted without human in the loop. Therefore, the AI experts are trying to create new verification and validation systems that can provide some kind of trust on AI systems.
